What is cosmetic dentistry?

Dentistry is no longer just a case of filling and extracting teeth, as it was for many years. Nowadays many people turn to cosmetic dentistry, or ‘aesthetic dentistry’, as a way of improving their appearance, much as they would use cosmetic surgery or even a new hairstyle. The treatments can be used to straighten, lighten, reshape and repair teeth. Cosmetic treatments include veneers, crowns, bridges, tooth coloured fillings, implants and tooth whitening.

Porcelain Veneers

This is the ultimate in a cosmetic dental make-over. Many cosmetic dental problems can be permanently resolved with porcelain veneers. Whether you have chipped, gapped, stained or mis-aligned teeth, this is the answer. This wafer-thin porcelain is form-fitted to each individual problem tooth. As strong as one’s own teeth, these veneers resist future discoloration and chipping. In as little as two visits, you can obtain the perfect smile.

Teeth whitening is one of the easiest ways to enhance your looks. Whether you want to add a sparkle to your smile for your wedding day or perfect your look for business meetings, whitening is simple, affordable and safe. There are a variety of products and procedures available to help you improve the look of yours. Many people are satisfied with the sparkle they get from brushing twice daily with fluoride-containing toothpaste, cleaning between their teeth once a day and the regular cleanings at your dentist’s practice. If you decide you would like to go beyond this to make your smile look brighter, you should investigate all of your options. You can take several approaches to whiten your smile, including our professional dental bleaching. We highly recommend the “ENLIGHTEN” product as it guarantees whiter smile. Call and make an appointment with our experienced dentist for further information.

Enlighten Whitening System – It works by increasing the tooth’s permeability to oxygen which breaks down stain molecules. It is a combination treatment meaning that there is a 2 week home treatment followed by a one hour visit to the dentist. The difference with Enlighten whitening is the results!

In-Office Teeth Whitening – The Pola Office system involves the application of the whitening gel by our highly trained staff while you sit in the chair for your initial session. The procedure takes approximately 45min to an hour. The teeth are whitened instantly due to the high concentration of the whitening gel. This method of whitening is highly preferred by those patients living busy lifestyles that want to achieve a whiter, brighter smile instantly. We also provide the patient with custom made trays and the pola whitening gel so they may continue the whitening process for the next 7-10 days in the comfort of their own environment.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening System – Pola Day and Pola Night are take home tooth whitening products. Custom made trays are fabricated by the dental laboratory and the Pola gel is supplied to the patient so that the teeth may be whitened at any time during the day or through the night at the convenience of the patient. The first session would be carried out in the surgery by our dentist and the subsequent sessions would be done by the patients themselves. This method of whitening may take longer to attain the optimal whitened smile and is recommended to be done for 10-14 days.

White Fillings

Metal dental work looks unnatural and can significantly age a person. Today, cosmetic dentistry uses white porcelain crowns and tooth-colored bonding instead of precious metals and amalgam. Modern, durable dental materials are completely safe, and they’ll allow you to maintain the integrity of an all-white smile. If you’d like your metal crowns and fillings replaced, discuss the options with one of our dentists at Woodhall Dental Practice when you next come to your appointment.
