Restorative Dental Treatment: Repairing and Enhancing Your Smile

Restorative dental treatment focuses on repairing and restoring the function, strength, and appearance of damaged, decayed, or missing teeth. These treatments help improve oral health, prevent further dental issues, and enhance overall smile aesthetics.

    Common Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments:

  • Fillings - Repair cavities and minor tooth damage using materials like composite resin.
  • Crowns - Protective caps placed over weakened or damaged teeth to restore strength and appearance.
  • Bridges - Fixed dental appliances that replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to adjacent teeth.
  • Dentures - Custom-made removable prosthetics for replacing multiple missing teeth.
  • Dental Implants - Permanent replacements for missing teeth that mimic natural tooth structure.
  • Root Canal Treatment - Removes infection from inside a tooth to save it from extraction.

Restorative dentistry not only improves oral function but also enhances confidence and long-term dental health. If you’re considering a treatment, we would be happy to guide you through your options!

Crowns

If you want a smile that’s your crowning glory, you may need a crown to cover a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size. A crown can make your tooth stronger and improve its appearance. It can cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth left. It can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that’s already been broken. A crown is a good way to cover teeth that are discoloured or badly shaped. It’s also used to cover a dental implant. If we recommend a crown, it’s probably to correct one of these concerns. Your dentist’s primary concern, like yours, is helping you keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright – literally your crowning glory.

Bridges

If you’re missing one or more teeth, you may notice a difference in chewing and speaking. There are options to help restore your smile. Bridges help maintain the shape of your face as well as alleviating the stress in your bite by replacing missing teeth. Sometimes called a fixed denture, a bridge replaces missing teeth with artificial teeth, looks great and literally bridges the gap where one or more teeth may have been. The restoration can be made from gold alloy, porcelain or a combination of these materials and is bonded onto the surrounding teeth for support.

Unlike a removable bridge, which you can take out and clean, a fixed bridge can only be removed by a dentist. An implant bridge attaches artificial teeth directly to the jaw or under the gum line. Depending on which type of bridge your dentist recommends, its success depends on its foundation. So it’s very important to keep your remaining teeth healthy and strong.

White Fillings

Metal dental work looks unnatural and can significantly age a person. Today, cosmetic dentistry uses white porcelain crowns and tooth-colored bonding instead of precious metals and amalgam. Modern, durable dental materials are completely safe, and they’ll allow you to maintain the integrity of an all-white smile. If you’d like your metal crowns and fillings replaced, discuss the options with one of our dentists at Woodhall Dental Practice when you next come to your appointment.

Implant Dentistry

Implants are a strong alternative solution to bridges and crowns for the replacement of missing or severely damaged teeth. They provide the strongest structural support available, allowing you to eat foods that you would be unable to eat with conventional dentures. To create an implant, a titanium post is anchored into the jawbone to form the core for one or more replacement teeth. The post becomes biologically fused to your jawbone, and the replacement tooth is then secured to the post, leaving you with a natural-looking smile and fully functional jaw. Implants also help maintain a more youthful appearance because they don’t erode as natural teeth will, which leads to the eventual recession of your jaw.
